Remember this?
PICTURE THIS: Beach Bunnies. Movie Premiers. You and 11 of your closest friends running day and night. Starting in the American Riviera, Santa Barbara, your team of 12 runners will embark on a 177 mile adventure-fest. The party in your van will only get better as you leap frog your way down the beautiful Pacific Coast. You’ll feel the ocean-spray as you fly past the star-studded Malibu, Ca and the “South-Swells” of Huntington Beach. The race (and your stamina) will wrap up where the spectacular bluffs meet the crashing waves of Dana Point.
We put together a team in the Sub-master division, (over 30 years of age) 5 women and 7 guys including me. we finished in 19 hours and 50 mins and won our division while getting 13th out of 105 teams overall! No one slept, and everyone ran their personal best times on at least 3 different legs of the race. (how could you do any less with 11 of your teammates watching!) It was harder, more exciting, and more fun then I expected! What a great experience for my first race, can’t wait to try something else, now that I am officially a runner!

I have been remiss about keeping everyone up to date as to the weekly results of our weightloss challenge. We ended up with 60 very motivated challangers who collectively lost 847.5 lbs!! Our winner at the Gothard gym Shelley Stockton, lost 17.2% which equaled 27 lbs!
Our winner at the Main St. gym Craig Pazanti, lost 17.02% or, in his case 41 lbs!
Everyone was extremely please with the weelkly Menus and recipes supplied by our own cook/chef/nutritionist/trainer Carolyn.
The weekly Bootcamp was a hugh success. Trainer extraordinare Mike changed it up every week, just to keep it fresh and exciting. He would end every session with some kind of challenge, like a relay race or plank hold ’til you dropped.
The weekly hikes were dominated by our fitness guru Diane, who led all who showed up at the different parks by running all the trails that we were just happy walking! Each week we would pick spectacular locations around Orange County, Ca., just to get everyone who showed up a great cardio workout.
The whole process of The 6 week TakeDown Challange was a hugh success. The education is invaluable, and learning how to eat right for the rest of your life is priceless. Thank you to all who participated, you are all Champs to Carolyn and me.

Running three legs during a 24-hour relay race is much easier than you think. Each team member runs three legs, ranging between 3 and 8 miles. This relay race is physically demanding, but legs vary in difficulty, and runners can choose their legs. This unique relay format makes Los Angeles an accessible race for beginners yet challenging enough for the most competitive.
THE TSPOT is putting a team together to make this run in April. Now, I am not much of a runner, but I figure this will help with with my NEW YEARS resolution to start! My wife Carolyn runs 30 miles or more a week already, (she could do this race tomorrow) she has run at least 8 1/2 marathons and a bunch of smaller races to date. She is looking for me to get started, (which I have) so we can run together, yipee, “Hey honey, can you please slow down for me just a bit?”
What are your resolutions for the New Year, and how can the Training Spot help?

Statistics for how much weight Americans tend to gain during the end-of-the-year festivities vary from 1 pound to 10, but it’s undoubtedly a tough time for anyone trying to eat healthfully.
- Be conscious of what you eat at food-focused events. This includes alcohol too!
- Holiday obligations can be stressful and can lead to over eating. Organize your time so the season is not so overwhelming.
- The demands of festivities can leave people feeling sluggish and sleep-deprived. And when people are tired, they’re more likely to overeat and not exercise.
- Avoid sources of temptation whenever you can. If there are sweets in the office break room, don’t go there. It is easier if you do not even see them.
- If you’re traveling for the holidays, pick up some healthy, portable snacks at the grocery store before you leave so you’re less likely to be tempted by unhealthy options.
